Onni Gives Back: Food Bank Donation Boxes

During the holiday season more than ever, we strive to give back to those in need. Every year, we set up food bank boxes at each of our sales centres for visitors to donate items. Supporting the food bank is the perfect way to participate in the spirit of giving, while putting food on the table for those in need. In addition to stopping by our Presentation Centres, we’re sharing some ways you can help give back over the holidays.

Raise Food or Funds at a Holiday Gathering

At your next holiday event with family, friends, or coworkers, encourage everyone to bring an item that can be donated. From canned, boxed, or frozen food, to essential toiletries and hygiene products, food and household items are always needed urgently by food banks. See what items are most needed here.

Volunteer

As the holidays are typically the busiest time of the year for food banks, a great way to give back is to help organize in the post donation stage. Once all the hustle and bustle has died down and the donations have come in, food banks will have their hands full sorting through everything collected. Any help sorting is very appreciated, and is a great way to extend your holiday season with family and friends while giving back to your community.

Family Outing

Now in its 19th annual year, the Canadian Pacific Railway Holiday Train program is underway. The train travels through Canada and the United States, stopping in several cities to raise food and funds for local food banks. Make a family evening of it when the train stops near you and enjoy a festive atmosphere, live music, and entertainment. Everyone is encouraged to bring a healthy food or monetary donation to the event if they can.
